We were lucky to catch up with Kevin Kawano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kevin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Joker’s Hand was born from risk.
GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW
It has been years since I reviewed the self-titled EP from Joker’s Hand. Although it’s a release I have listened to many times since I reviewed it, I spent some time tonight going back and re-reading the review (you can re-read or read it for the first time HERE!). It sparked so much joy in me because I remember the excitement I felt as I listened to that album for the first time.
BUZZSLAYERS
A new EP release from Joker's Hand delivers a massive rock tonality that blends alternative rock with pop rock, elements of punk, and more with the delivery that packs tons of energy and character into one record so much that you get attached to that character almost straight away.
HARDBEAT - UNLEASHING THE UNDERGROUND
California has been a hotbed of musical talent over the past 50 years. Many of the bands that are global phenomenons have originated there…so no pressure on anyone looking to make their move now, eh? Enter Joker’s Hand, a duo that are now seven years into their journey across the Los Angeles scene and beyond.
UNIS-SON
You should put Joker’s Hand on your radar now, and the best way to do it is Pride Before The Panic. Review of their new fast-paced and banging EP.
SOUNDVILLE
Joker's Hand, a duo consisting of musicians Kevin Kawano and Matt Lau, has encapsulated the power of alternative rock and punk, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry since its inception in 2017. They serve as a shining example of how energy and passion for music can transform the sonic landscape. Their third EP, "Pride Before The Panic," embodies everything that Joker's Hand represents: raw emotion, an emotional outburst, a storm of feelings, and sincerity infused with anxious punk lyrics.
ALT 77
Maybe it’s because we’ve been brainwashed by books and films, but we’ve come to expect our heroes to appear in the moments that we most need them. And as we stare down a new era, all of us with a good internet connection or, simply, just a good set of eyes have plenty of reasons to believe that we need saving.
BUFFABLOG
LA-based duo Joker’s Hand (JH) are mad, and for good reason. Everything kinda sucks right now in general (I don’t think I need to elaborate on that much further)… But one of the greatest outlets for releasing said emotions is music, and JH have honed in their catharsis with edgy, alt-punk flavor. Their latest release is the six-song Pride Before The Panic, full of pointed commentary and systemic unrest in an aggressive but catchy package.
THE GATEKEEPER SPACE
Alright, music mavens and audiophiles! We’re diving headfirst into the angsty, electric world of Joker’s Hand and their latest EP, “Pride Before The Panic.” This upcoming 6-track EP is a musical Molotov cocktail of raw emotions and modern alt-punk/alt-rock vibes, taking their angst from 0 to 100 in a heartbeat. If their previous EP was a storm, Pride Before The Panic is the full-blown hurricane that is scheduled for release on all streaming platforms on February 16th, 2024.
